USA Today Interview with Sarah Wendell (Smart Bitches Trashy Books)
While there is an erotic subgenre for romance fiction and this seems to be overwhelming the market at the moment, there are many more areas of the commercial genre, as in any other type of genre fiction. Crime fiction often has major sexual overtones but this genre seems immune to accusations of ‘porn’.
Why? I wager the reason has to do with who writes it. The vast majority of writers of Romance are women. Therefore, the genre is dismissed, berated and bashed with impunity.
